Journal.gifPersonal Updates

So... updates... Well in non-dA news, I finally managed to see I am Legend. I thought Will Smith's acting was superb, possibly even better than in Pursuit of Happyness, but I was a little disappointed by the movie as a whole. It sort of just felt frayed around the edges to me, like they had this wonderful character and acting, and a decent story, but that there simply wasn't enough to it. It seemed to lack substance somehow. I enjoyed it, but wished it had simply had more .

In my TV viewing, I am very pleased to see Lost, Spicks and Specks and Good News Week all back on air. In Lost, I was rewarded for my constant (possibly obsessive) considerations and musings over the last number of months. I had predicted that "Jack's father either is, or is in some way connected to, Jacob". I'd written this on a piece of paper before the episode started and tucked it away, only to bring it out and show my Dad when, lo and behold, I was right. Turns out you can figure stuff out on Lost if you just spend enough time obsessing over it. No more Charlie though. Locke's still crazy enough, so that ought to be fun.

The first Spicks and Specks of the year was AWESOME. I'm so glad I didn't miss it. "When I was young, my first pokemon... Of course I was there, I was wearing these... feet". And of course the bass-off at the end was just pure gold. Good News Week had me in absolute stitches as well - I was literally rolling on the floor, bellowing out laughter (how often does that happen?). I've learnt a very important lesson, you see. In order to have high-quality programming, incorporate the following elements. 1) Frank Woodley. 2) Mime. That's it. Nothing else is needed. Just create a show where, for an hour, Frank attempts to mime various amusing scenes. That is the recipe for teh funny. Also, Craig's fantastic line, "I will not be a part of Channel Ten's shameless cross-promotions", was perfect.

Valentines day is approaching, and half of the first-world is shuddering, be it males who have to buy presents, or females who hate the day for its pretension and materialism. I personally am quite indifferent to the event, but take it as a decent oppurtunity/excuse to show affection for my lovely friends (of the fairer sex). I will also be showcasing some of the more beautiful romance-orientated deviations as features.

In dA related news, I urge you all to check out =alexiuss's latest novelty: 1001 clues that you've been spending too much time on devianART. Very cool stuff. Find it here:

I'm very impressed by the new capabilities of the Collections functions. For one, it allows me to group works, without neccessary clogging up my favourites. I am also pleased to see you can now comment on others' collections. Feel free to comment on mine (hint hint).

Finally, those of you who live in Brisbane may be interested in checking out the upcoming devmeet, which will be held on the weekend of the 8th/9th of March. For more information go to *brisvegas

Back soon,
Jeremy

:

Features.gifLiterature Feature
Rather than my usual feature of the wonderful literary works from the *TheWritersMeow's gallery, this time around I'd like to do a more extensive feature of one particular work. The illustrious Artist Relations leader, $Moonbeam13, along with the wonderful Literature Gallery Director, ^StJoan, have challenged deviants to allow Poetry and Prose a more prominant place within dA, via specific features (relevant journal entries here: [link] and here: [link]). This is something that I certainly support, and I try to consistently feature the marvellous pieces that I read. So without further ado:

I would like to present one of the most poignant pieces of short prose I've read here on dA, titled "Portrait of Tenderness". It was bursting at the seams with emotion and you won't be able to help but empathise with the characters. I felt as though I personally had experienced this tragic scene and this is tribute to the quality of ~Black-rose91's writing. If you don't read any of the other literature features I've done, please make sure you at least read this one. On the posting of this journal, the piece has less than a hundred views. This just feels wrong to me. Writing of such a beautiful standard as this deserves great recognition.

Midnight songs tell of a bloody war, between kingdoms from afar,
a war with no end, and a story with no start.

98% of Deviants don't know the difference between "your" and "you're." If you're one of the 2% that wants to punch 'em, put this in your sig.

Well, I wouldn't be too surprised if it was somewhere between 75 and 90% - there are a LOT of people here on dA that misuse the words - but 98% isn't really accurate.

I suppose that it could be true that only 2% want to punch the ignorant in the face though...

:iconblack-rose91:
haha Well yeah, you've got a point there. If that's the case, I guess 2% does sound accurate enough *nod nod*

Still, wht I find most surprising is that out of the 75-90%, around half are english speakers. American, Britsh, Australian, Kiwi, whatever. English is their own language and still they do that.
Everyone else has an excuse, at least.

Yeah, but it's also the fact that people just slip up as though it were a typo... I've seen plenty of writers on dA who would know the right thing to do, but have still made the mistake in a journal entry or comment...

Ture... Typos are quite a tricky thing, and annoying as well.
